Our Commitments

Stagmere has been part of the Hertfordshire countryside for generations. The estate is cared for with one aim: that it is handed on in better condition than it was received, with its history intact and its village at its heart.

  1. 01

    Repair before replacement

Original fabric is kept and mended wherever it can be. New work is used only where the old cannot be saved, and every change is recorded.

  2. 02

    Traditional craft

Lime, oak, slate and handmade brick, worked by craftspeople who know them and, wherever possible, by those who live nearby.

  3. 03

    The estate's record

Deeds, maps, photographs and manorial papers are conserved, and shared with historians and the public where appropriate.

  4. 04

    The village

Residents are listened to on changes that affect them, and their memories of Stagmere are gathered so that they are never lost.
